Malcolm Heins

Malcolm Heins has demonstrated his change management capabilities in both business and legal settings. He brings a wealth of experience in law, regulation, governance, strategic planning, operations and public affairs. From 2001 to 2012, Malcolm was the Chief Executive Officer of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the regulator of Ontario's 41,000 lawyers and 2,700 paralegals. Under his tenure the Law Society structure was completely restructured and the regulation of paralegals successfully incorporated into the mandate.
Prior to joining the Law Society, Malcolm was President and CEO of the Lawyers' Professional Indemnity Company, an insurer engaged in lawyer's professional liability insurance and title insurance. During his six years running LawPRO, Malcolm achieved a masterful turnaround, taking over the organization in virtual insolvency and turning it into a highly successful business. This built on his success as President and CEO of Simcoe Erie/GAN Canada, then one of the largest underwriters of professional liability insurance in Canada.
Malcolm, a former civil litigator, has been extensively recognized for his leadership in the legal profession, as well as receiving the 2005 award as Communicator of the Year from the International Association of Business Communicators (Toronto.) As a volunteer he has played a leading role in the growth and development of the Law Society Foundation's charitable programs and serves on the boards of Pro Bono Law Ontario, the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, and Cancer Care Ontario.
